Apache Spark is a unified analytics engine for large-scale data processing and is a key part of our data cloud. Spark is used by a majority of our 2000+ customers across hundreds of thousands of nodes.
Our client is looking for a hands-on engineering manager to lead one or more teams within the Spark and Data Engineering group. As an engineering manager, you’ll enable a strong, experienced team of software engineers to do the best work of their careers.
Lead a team of 3-10 software engineers to deliver the best Spark distribution in the industry
Collaborate with product management, technical leadership to plan and deliver roadmap on a regular cadence
Drive multiple team or company-wide initiatives simultaneously delivering each one with high quality making flexible tradeoffs where required
Ensure customer escalations are triaged and handle expediently with empathy
Hire great talent and retain them by enabling strong career growth and frequent, high value 1:1s
Hands-on contributions to the team by producing patches, fixing bugs, testing products and doing code reviews if and when the situation arises
Participate actively in customer engagements pitching products, listening to and addressing pain points and understanding use cases
3 years of engineering management experience at a fast-paced company
5 years of software development experience in one of Java, Scala, Clojure or C++
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong aptitude for adapting and responding quickly to challenging situations and changing business needs
Experience with big data ecosystem is a huge plus
Experience managing remote employees or global teams is a big plus
