Role Overview

Andiamo is searching for an Assistant Manager of Application Development for a direct hire position with a phenomenal client of ours in Phoenix.  In this role the selected candidate will work to improve business processes and support critical business strategies by managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of business applications systems. Responsible for project planning and supervision of the Project Leaders, Business Systems Analyst and Developers/Programmers.  Frequently required to provide Senior Level Business Analyst skills for new development, software enhancements, troubleshooting system problems and selection of software packages.  Familiar with a variety of the IT concepts, practices, and procedures.  Evaluates/recommends new products/solutions to better support the business needs of the company. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.   A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

1.     Quality

Meet or exceed the expectations and requirements of our customer’s information systems.  Ensure that new development and system enhancements work as designed and are delivered on time.  Ensure that the development staff and contractors our client’s software development standards.

2.     Customer Service –Maintain high level of internal customer service

The customer feedback received by the VP of IT and/or others on the team must describe service at an above average level.  Must ensure that the company is adequately staffed for IT projects.  Electronically track user requests and project status.  Meet with end users on a regular scheduled basis to report status and ensure that IT is working on the “right” projects.

3.     Supervision/Coaching

Administer annual reviews, semi-annual coaching sessions and disciplinary/corrective actions when necessary. Prepare budget recommendations.

4.  Support Business Goals

Support the overall business goals that are stated in the Annual business plan.  Develop and complete the IT objectives that are directly aligned with the business goals.


·         Manage the Application Development staff (Project Leaders, Business Systems Analyst and Developers/Programmers) Ensure that individual tasks and objectives are correctly completed and on time.

·         Perform annual reviews and semi-annual coaching sessions with all direct reports.

·         Prepare salary, expense and capital budget recommendations.

·         Hire Application Development personnel (BA’s, Developers, DBA’s, Report Writers, etc.).

·         Manage the Systems Life Cycle Process that includes feasibility study, requirements definition, programming, testing, training and bug fixing.

·         Ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.  Monitor project status and schedule.

·         Review, analyze, and evaluate business systems and user needs

·         Write detailed description of user needs, program functions and steps that are needed to develop or modify computer programs 

·         Assist with developing and implementing the company’s application software development standards.

·         Continuously improve IT knowledge and skills through attending seminars, extended education classes, and user group meetings

·         Assist with internal and external audits.  Ensure that the company is compliant with the management approved auditor recommendations.

·         Effectively communicate with the Executive Management team, peers, subordinates and end users.

·         Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements

·         Excellent interpersonal & communication (verbal & written) skills - ability to interact with all levels

·         5- 8 years of Supervisory experience managing IT personnel

·         Hands on experience with flowcharting tools and MS project management software

·         Demonstrated proficiency managing complex projects using effective time management skills

·         Strong organizational skills

·         5 – 8 years of experience with analysis and documentation of business requirements and system design

·         Ability to multi-task

·         Prefer insurance industry knowledge, specifically medical malpractice insurance

·         College degree preferred or equivalent work experience
