Job Description

About the Role

Microsoft Windows is an important technology for Jane Street. It is our primary desktop operating system and many key core infrastructure services are provided by Windows servers. Members of the Windows team work with others in the broader Systems group to monitor, manage and maintain our mixed environment of Linux and Windows, across a physical and virtual computing landscape on three continents.

As a Windows developer you will be responsible for developing and maintaining tools and applications related to user and group administration, hardware/software inventory, operating system builds, software deployment, system monitoring, auditing/reporting, and enhancing trader productivity. In addition to writing code, you will also be responsible for the entire development life-cycle of each project. This includes meeting with stakeholders to gather requirements, development, testing, documentation, support, and incorporating enhancements or new features based on stakeholder feedback.

We use a variety of platforms and programming languages for developing and maintaining our trading environment. Teamwork is paramount at Jane Street, so you should be excited about sharing your work with others. We enjoy the challenge and diversity encountered each day. You will get exposure to multiple segments of our business and will work with our trading desks and international offices on a daily basis. Sometimes the work is intense, but it is always rewarding. We seek talented people and provide them with the tools to succeed with a great company.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient in writing/maintaining PowerShell scripts
  • 4+ years writing code in a .NET Language, in particular GUI applications (WPF preferred), Windows services, and Web services (ASP.NET Web API preferred)
  • Must be willing to learn F# and write functional code
  • Understanding of Key Windows Server technologies, especially IIS
  • Experience designing MSSQL DB schemas for use with Entity Framework
  • Proficient understanding of version control (Mercurial preferred)

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with F# or other functional languages
  • Data serialization (JSON.net preferred)
  • Experience with web development (HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, CSS)
  • Familiar with MVVM
  • Optimization / Profiling of code
